Articles on: Import VAT

What is the difference between customs duty and VAT?

Both customs duty and import VAT are charged on goods above £135 purchased outside the UK. Customs duty depends on the type and origin of the good, while the import VAT (value-added tax) has a fixed rate and is calculated as the total value of the product imported into the country.
